The Role

The Project Manager Urban Plan will have responsibility for the investigation, documentation and delivery of strategic projects relating to Council’s adopted Urban Plan. This plan seeks to balance place values, business and community interests in a way that enhances the city, supports local business and enterprise, drives investment and generates opportunities for emerging and niche sectors.

The role will have all aspects of project delivery including development of quotation and tender documentation. It is also be required to actively seek grant funding for the continued development of the Urban Plan. In this role there is a need to interact across the organisation and more broadly with a range of stakeholders, particularly CBD businesses.

Burnie Council has secured $17.6 M from the Australian Government towards the implementation of Burnie City Council’s Urban Plan to date.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of Urban Plan projects: from concept development (stakeholder discussions, commissioning studies, cost estimates) through approval, implementation, and formal handover.
  • Proactively identify and pursue grant funding aligned to the Urban Plan; prepare and submit funding proposals and comply with all reporting requirements.
  • Define project scope, objectives, deliverables, risks, and issues; develop and maintain project schedules, budget estimates, and risk registers.
  • Regularly update project documentation—costing, delivery models, governance records—and ensure the Director of Operations is informed on progress, performance, and emerging issues.
  • Organise and lead stakeholder engagement processes: meetings, workshops, approvals, submission preparation; capture and document outcomes and actions.

Please note that Council is happy to consider either full-time or part-time arrangements, depending on the needs of the successful candidate.

Your ability to communicate clearly, manage competing deadlines, and work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders ensures timely and high-quality outcomes. With a strong focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement, you are committed to supporting strategic initiatives like Burnie’s Urban Plan and contributing to the long-term vision of a vibrant, inclusive, and economically thriving city.
