Tasmanian Planning Scheme
The Tasmanian Planning Scheme provides a single, consistent set of rules for how land in Tasmania can be used, developed, protected, and conserved. It came into effect on 22 July 2020, replacing the Burnie Interim Planning Scheme 2013.
The Scheme has two parts:
1. State Planning Provisions – Mandatory rules that apply statewide for consistent permit and compliance requirements.
2. Local Provision Schedule – Tailored rules for each municipality, including the Burnie Local Provision Schedule (BUR LPS), which specifies how the state provisions apply locally.
The Scheme supports strategic land use planning across residential, business, agriculture, environmental, and recreational zones, while addressing natural hazards, heritage values, natural assets, infrastructure protection, and parking.
