100kg Free for Residents - it's easy, no tickets needed.

We heard your feedback that the old tip-voucher system wasn’t fair especially for tenants who often missed out. So as part of the 2025/26 budget which included a number of Waste Service Changes all Burnie residents can now drop off up to 100kg of household landfill or green waste for free each visit by simply showing proof of residence.

How it Works
1. Drop off recyclables at the Recovery Loop first (e.g. cardboard, cooking oil, steel, e-waste, tip shop resale items).
2. Weigh in, drop off, and weigh out again at the toll booth.
3. If your load is under 100kg, it’s free! (around 2–3 wheelie bins or 8–10 bags).
If it’s over 100kg, you only pay for the extra (e.g. 120kg = $4.90 for 20kg).

Charges will apply for:
• Non-residents
• Commercial and business waste
• Tyres, mattresses, asbestos and others
Please refer to the fees and charges for the full list..

Fair Use
This service is for everyday household waste. Frequent excessive use may result in charges or refusal.  Refer to Fair Use Policy for more information.
Non-Residents, Businesses, and Organisations can deposit a reasonable amount at the free Recovery Loop, but landfill and green waste are charged at $245/tonne (min $24.50).

Conditions
Free disposal is for Burnie residents only.
Please be ready to show proof of residence (drivers licence).

Green Waste
Fees now better reflect the rising costs of managing and processing green waste as we move toward full cost recovery. We know this may affect some small businesses and past token users. The new FOGO service makes managing food and garden waste easier, and simple steps like mulching or waste-smart gardening can help too.
