As schools across Tasmania close due to potential asbestos exposure, this material must be disposed of correctly to limit further contamination. If you or your school has discovered asbestos-contaminated sand, please follow the following steps:

Stop using the products immediately. Place the sand in a heavy-duty plastic bag, double-tape it securely, and keep it out of reach of children.

IMPORTANT: Do not dispose of this product in general waste or kerbside collection bins.

Asbestos-contaminated Kinetic Sand can be taken to the Burnie Waste Management Centre for free on weekdays between 9 am and 4 pm - please call ahead on 6430 5834, or inform staff on arrival so it can be disposed of safely in line with EPA requirements.

Thank you for disposing of your waste responsibly and helping to keep our community safe. For more information on the contaminated products, please head to WorkSafe Tasmania -  Asbestos Contamination Alert – Decorative Sand Products
