When a discretionary permit application is lodged, the Burnie Planning Authority must notify adjoining owners and occupiers, place a notice on the site, and publish a notice in The Advocate newspaper.
The application must then be made available for public inspection for a period of 14 days.
During this 14-day exhibition period, any person may make a representation either in support of or in opposition to the discretionary permit application.
Representations must be made in writing and received before the end of the advertised exhibition period.
Your representation must relate to the discretionary matters identified in the Tasmanian Planning Scheme that apply to the application.
Representations should be clearly marked “Representation - Land Use Permit Application” and include the relevant reference number. They may be lodged in any of the following ways:
- by email to burnie@burnie.tas.gov.au
- by post to:
Planning Department
Burnie City Council
PO Box 973, Burnie TAS 7320; or
- by hand delivery to City Offices, 80 Wilson Street, Burnie.
The Planning Authority will notify you of the outcome of your representation and its decision on the permit application.
If you have made a representation and are dissatisfied with the Planning Authority’s decision, you may appeal to the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Please note: If the use or development does not require a permit, or if the permit is not discretionary, the Planning Authority is not required to notify of the application. In these circumstances, adjoining owners, occupiers, and other members of the public do not have a right to inspect the application or make a representation.
