Planting with Phil and Hellyer College

 

Phil, our own Natural Resource Management Officer (NRM) and the Hellyer College Outdoor Education students have just finished planting at Cooee Beach and the Burton Street Reserve.

Cooee Beach

Council have been removing Marram Grass and blackberry at Cooee Beach which is very open with no little penguins nesting. The plantings in this area will provide more habitat for when the little penguins return.

Phil and the students planted 400 out of the 1300 local native grasses and plants, to help regenerate the area.

Burton St Reserve

This area is classified as a Eucalyptus viminalis (white gum) forest which is a Tasmanian Threatened Native Vegetation Community. We have removed weeds from this site and will continue over the coming years.

Phil and the students planted over 200 plants of the 500 that were planted on this site!
