Each year Council conducts a public tender for Bitumen Surfacing Services to support our Urban and Rural Roads Reseal Program.

 

Bitumen Surfacing Services 2024-2025 – Contract 2713

July 2025
The following sites have been completed by the nominated contractors for resealing: Bathurst Street, Lyons Street, Manuka Drive, McGaw Place, Mount Street, Rouse Place, Sanderson Place, Three Mile Line Road, Wellington Street, Woniora Road, Malunna Crescent, Tolunah Street, Oonah Road and Upper Natone Road.

Contract - Ocean View Lane reseal has been completed, and speed humps reinstated.

April 2025

Roadways and Hardings have almost completed 90% of the civil works associated with their respective bitumen surfacing sites. Civil works include replacing damaged kerb and channel, footpaths, driveway crossovers, kerb outfalls, and gully pits. Bellavista Road has been sealed, and some other rural sites have been patched and are ready to be sealed. Most urban sites are also ready for sealing. Sites have all been marked up.

Contract 2705 - Ocean View Lane is the last site remaining for this contract. Hardings have completed stormwater upgrades at the site, and Telstra has completed pit relocation works. Hardings will now complete sealing by the end of the second week of April 2025.

January 2025
Roadways Pty Ltd and Hardings Group (TAS) Pty Ltd have started the civil works associated with their respective bitumen surfacing sites. The civil works include replacing damaged kerb and channel, footpath, driveway crossovers, kerb outfalls, gully pits, etc. The reseal sites have been marked up and the Contractors will start works on their return following the Christmas holidays.

Contract 2705 - Ocean View Lane is the last site remaining for this Contract. Hardings have completed stormwater upgrades at the site, with Telstra due to commence pit relocations works mid- January 2025. Once completed, no Hardings will complete the reseal works.

October 2024
Due to the size of this year’s reseals Contract, it was decided to split the contract into Urban Portion A and Urban Portion B. 

  • Roadways Pty Ltd have been awarded Part A (Rural and Urban Portion A), Part B (supply), Part C (Portion A) and Part E (associated civil works for portions) 

  • Hardings Group Tas Pty Ltd for Part A (Urban Portion B), Part D (Portion B) and Part E (associated works for portions).

 

Bitumen Surfacing Services 2023-2024 – Contract 2705

October 2024
Hardings have completed remediation works to failed sections of the Brickport Road reseal. The remaining reseal for this Contract is Ocean View Lane which will be completed after stormwater works and Telstra works have been completed. Works are anticipated to be completed mid-November.

July 2024
Hardings have completed the reseal program with the following roads completed Alma Place, Kennedy Street, Bernard Place, Boland Avenue, Brickport Road, George Street, Grandview Avenue, Ocean View Lane, Pearl Street, Ogden Street and Latrobe Street.

April 2024
Hardings have commenced the reseal program and have completed Talunah Road. Works are scheduled to be completed by end of May 2024.

January 2024
Works will commence in the New Year.

October 2024
The Contract has been awarded to Hardings Hotmix. Project Managers are currently meeting to review the schedule of works.

 

Bitumen Surfacing Services 2022-2023 – Contract 2691

January 2024
Contractor to still complete the following carry-forward jobs:

• Thorne Street remediation – Late January 2024.
• Minna Road – February 2024. 

October 2023
Contractor to still complete the following carry forward jobs:
• Queen Street – late October 2023
• Oonah Road – early October 2023
• Thorne Street remediation – November 2023
• Minna Road – November 2023

Delays were due to weather and ground surface temperatures not being suitable for sealing.

July 2023
Works have commenced. Contractor has completed the following roads:

Payne/Hardy Street
Belton Street Intersection
Little Bird Street

April 2023
Works have commenced. Contractor has completed the following roads:
Minna Road
Mooreville Road
Mills Road
Hambledon Avenue

The contract has been awarded to Hardings Hotmix. Works will commence mid-January 2023.

 

This 2021-2022 financial year Burnie-based Roadways Pty Ltd have been awarded the Contract.
