Burnie City Council is proud to support local organisations, community groups and residents through a range of funding opportunities that help strengthen our community.

Whether you're planning a community project, delivering an event, building a long-term partnership with Council or representing Tasmania or Australia on a bigger stage, our grants and funding programs are designed to help turn great ideas into reality.

All programs support the vision and priorities of Making a Better Burnie 2044 by investing in initiatives that create positive social, cultural, environmental and economic outcomes for our community.


Apply in three easy steps:

1. Choose the Right Grant Program
Burnie City Council offers a range of grant programs to support community organisations, projects and events. Choose the program that best aligns with your proposal.

2. Read the Guidelines
Once you've selected the appropriate grant program, read the relevant guidelines to ensure your project meets the eligibility criteria and application requirements.

3. Apply
You're ready to apply! Simply select the relevant grant program below to be redirected to the SmartyGrants portal, where you can complete and submit your application.


1. Choose the Right Grant Program

Community Grant

Purpose:

Supports community-led projects, programs, infrastructure improvements and local events that primarily deliver local community outcomes. Maximum grant $5,000 ex GST.

Timing:

Annual funding round. Additional or targeted rounds may be offered where funding remains available.

Closing Date:

Midnight, 23 August 2026

 

Partnership Program

Purpose:

Supports organisations or events delivering ongoing strategic outcomes where a longer-term funding relationship is more appropriate than annual grant applications.

Timing:

By Expression of Interest (EOI) or invitation, as determined by Council.

Closing Date:

Midnight, 23 August 2026

 

 

Event Sponsorship

Purpose:

Supports events that deliver economic, tourism, cultural and community benefits for Burnie and contribute to a vibrant annual events calendar.
Funding amount is determined based on the scale, impact and value of the event, available budget and the level of community benefit.

Timing:

Applications are encouraged during the annual funding round. Applications remain open throughout the year and will be considered subject to available funding.

Closing Date:

Priority round closes Midnight, 23 August 2026

Applications remain open, subject to available funding.

 

 

Achievement Grant

Purpose:

Supports Burnie residents selected to represent Tasmania or Australia in in sporting, academic, arts, cultural or youth activities.

Timing:

Open throughout the year, subject to available funding. Applications are to be received at least 6 weeks prior to the event.

Closing Date:

No closing date.

Open until annual funding is exhausted.
