The Strategic Plan and Vision that will guide Burnie over the next 20 years has been adopted by Council.

Making a Better Burnie 2044 is the long-term vision of Burnie City Council. Using the community’s feedback, we have shaped 5 goals each with their own key directions to guide Councils collaborative efforts in partnership with our community and key stakeholders as we advance towards 2044.

Over six months, the Burnie community was consulted extensively about what difference it wants its Council to make over the long-term, over the next 20 years.

Our collective vision is of an exciting future - as a clean, green, economically strong city, known for its natural beauty, its industrial past and for our new forms of making.

This community consultation had the highest level of participation and feedback that council has experienced to date. And that is why this plan – Making a Better Burnie 2044 – is written by and for, the community.

 

 

Councils Planning Framework

Making a Better Burnie 2044 will be the overarching plan for Council. Its purpose is to articulate the community's vision, main priorities, and aspirations for the future, as well as to outline the strategies necessary to achieve these goals.

Council will now undertake a comprehensive revision of its 15-year long-term Assessment Management and Financial Management Plans, aligning them with the direction outlined in the new Strategic Plan.

The 4-year Council Plan outlines the objectives that the Council aims to achieve within its local government term to bring about our vision for the future.   

Each year, the Council's Annual Plan and Budget Estimates, along with the Capital Works Program, will be crafted based on the principal activities outlined in the overarching plan and vision - Making a Better Burnie 2044.

We want our town centre to be a place all people feel safe, welcome and included.

We want our local communities to be liveable, meaning that people have ready and convenient access to services and facilities needed to enjoy daily life.

3. Making sustainable built and natural environments
We want to be leaders in sustainability and take an ecosystem approach to management of our natural environment, so that local plants and creatures can survive and thrive in their natural environments.

We want Burnie to be an inclusive, tolerant and safe place for everyone who lives, works and plays here, celebrating our heritage and diversity.

We want our whole community to feel informed, engaged and confident that the Burnie City Council is making good long-term decisions in making a better Burnie.
