Community Grants 2026-27 Awarded

Council has awarded $170,039 in funding for 2026-27 through its Community Grants, Event Sponsorship and Partnership programs.

The funding will support local organisations, community groups, events and projects that contribute to a vibrant, connected and thriving Burnie community.

A total of 49 applications were received across the three funding streams, with 34 organisations awarded funding.

Applications were assessed by Council officers against the assessment criteria outlined in the relevant program guidelines for each funding stream. The assessment outcomes and funding recommendations were presented to Councillors at a workshop, before funding was approved by Council at the September Council meeting. 

 

Community Grants

Community Grants support local projects and activities that deliver a clear benefit to the Burnie community. The program is designed to strengthen community wellbeing, participation and inclusion; support arts, culture and heritage; improve community facilities and infrastructure; support environmental sustainability; and build the capacity of local organisations and volunteers.

Grants are generally for individual projects and activities, with funding of up to $5,000 available per application.

Event Sponsorship

Event Sponsorship supports events that contribute to Burnie’s social, cultural and economic life and help showcase the municipality as a vibrant place to live, work and visit.

Sponsorship may support a range of events that provide a demonstrated benefit to the Burnie community, including one-off and, where appropriate, multi-year events.

Partnerships

The Partnership Program is intended for organisations that deliver significant and ongoing benefits to the Burnie community and are best supported through a longer-term strategic relationship with Council.

Partnerships can include financial and in-kind support, collaborative project delivery, promotion, advocacy, and access to Council expertise and resources.

Partnership agreements are generally offered for up to three years and are tailored to the objectives and outcomes of each partnership.

Council's grants programs provide an opportunity to work alongside local organisations and community groups to support projects and activities that contribute to Making a Better Burnie 2044.

Funding recipients will enter into an agreement with Council outlining their approved funding, conditions and acquittal requirements.
