Are you an LGBTIQA+ person or ally who lives, works or studies in Burnie, or regularly visits? We want to hear from you.

Burnie City Council has established a LGBTIQA+ Community Advisory Group to guide the development of Burnie’s inaugural LGBTIQA+ Action Plan.

The Advisory Group includes community members with lived experience and local expertise. Its role is to help identify priorities, gather community feedback and recommend practical actions that support inclusion across the Burnie municipality.

Burnie City Council is supporting this work to ensure the Action Plan reflects the experiences and needs of LGBTIQA+ people and helps make Burnie a safe, welcoming and inclusive community for everyone.

The development of the Action Plan also supports Goal 4 of the Making a Better Burnie Strategic Plan 2044: “Making culturally rich and vibrant communities.” This work contributes to strengthening community connection, celebrating diversity and ensuring all people feel they belong in Burnie.

This survey is for LGBTIQA+ people, family members, allies and people who work with LGBTIQA+ communities who live, work, study in, visit, or have previously lived in Burnie.

ABOUT THIS SURVEY

The survey asks questions about:

  • who you are and your connection to the LGBTIQA+ community
  • your experiences living, working, or visiting Burnie
  • issues affecting LGBTIQA+ people in Burnie
  • your experiences with Burnie City Council
  • ideas for improving LGBTIQA+ inclusion in the community

The results of this survey will help guide Burnie City Council’s work to make Burnie a more welcoming and inclusive place for LGBTIQA+ people.

The questions in this survey have been informed by the work of other Australian councils and guided by the Burnie City Council LGBTIQA+ Action Plan Community Advisory Group, which includes representation from local organisations and LGBTIQA+ community members.

We acknowledge that the language LGBTIQA+ people use to describe identities and experiences is always evolving. We also recognise that there is no single LGBTIQA+ community, but rather a diversity of people, identities and experiences.

Burnie includes suburbs and communities across the Burnie local government area, including Burnie, Cooee, Parklands, South Burnie, Upper Burnie, Ridgley, Natone and surrounding areas.

The survey is anonymous and the information you provide cannot be linked to you.

Completing the survey should take approximately 10-15 minutes.

Please complete the survey before entering the raffle separately to win one of two $100 vouchers. The raffle will be drawn after the survey closes on Monday, 18 May 2026. Winners will be contacted directly and will not be announced publicly.

ABOUT THE TERM LGBTIQA+

LGBTIQA+ stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer or Questioning, and Asexual/Aromantic/Agender.

The “+” recognises that there are many other identities and experiences that may not fit within these categories.

You do not have to identify with the LGBTIQA+ community to complete the survey. We welcome responses from people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, asexual, and other sexuality and gender diverse identities, their families and allies, and those who work in a LGBTIQA+ role.

You may see words in this survey that are unfamiliar. If so, you may choose the option that best fits you or skip the question.
