Burnie Christmas Parade 2026 – Float Grants

Burnie City Council is offering grants of up to $200 to help eligible community groups, organisations, schools and other participants create and present a float in the Burnie Christmas Parade on Friday 11 December 2026.

The Float Grant is designed to help local groups bring their Christmas themed ideas to life and encourage broad community participation in the parade.

Whether you’re planning a colourful community float, creating costumes, decorating a vehicle or dreaming up something completely unique, we’d love to see your creativity on the streets of Burnie!

 

πŸŽ„ What can the $200 grant be used for?

Grant funding can be used for reasonable costs directly related to creating and presenting your parade float, including:

  • Christmas decorations and materials
  • Float construction and craft materials
  • Lighting and decorative elements
  • Signage
  • Costumes or costume-making materials
  • Other reasonable materials required to create and decorate your float.

Funding cannot be used for prizes, gifts or donations, personal expenses, vehicle operating costs or other costs unrelated to participation in the Burnie Christmas Parade.

 

πŸŽ„ Who can apply?

Applications are open to eligible:

  • Community groups, sporting clubs and not-for-profit organisations
  • Early years and childcare providers
  • Primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and tertiary education providers
  • Other groups that can demonstrate a community benefit through their participation in the parade.

Groups that are not incorporated may be eligible to apply through an incorporated auspice organisation, in accordance with Council's Community Grants Guidelines.

 

πŸŽ„ What are we looking for?

We’re looking for creative, fun and festive floats that add to the atmosphere of the Burnie Christmas Parade.

As part of your application, you’ll be asked to tell us about:

  1. Your proposed float, including its Christmas theme or concept
  2. How your group, participants or wider community will be involved
  3. How you intend to use the $200 grant
  4. Any additional funding, donations, materials or volunteer support contributing to your float.

Applications will be considered based on community participation and benefit, contribution to the parade, creativity and festive appeal, capacity to deliver the proposed float and value for money.

πŸŽ„ Insurance and parade registration

The Float Grant application also includes information required for participation in the Burnie Christmas Parade.

Applicants will be asked to provide details including:

  • A brief description of the float and organisation for the MC
  • Number of vehicles included in the entry
  • Approximate total length of the entry
  • A brief description of vehicles included
  • Public Liability Insurance details, where applicable
  • Agreement to the relevant Indemnity and Release and Burnie Christmas Parade Terms and Conditions.

Groups with current Public Liability Insurance will need to provide a copy of their certificate of currency.

Groups without their own Public Liability Insurance may be eligible to apply for Burnie City Council's Community Liability Insurance Cover, subject to eligibility and approval.

There are two ways to register for the 2026 Burnie Christmas Parade:

1. Parade Registration – no Float Grant
If you would like to participate in the parade but are not applying for the $200 Float Grant, complete the registration form below.

2. Float Grant Application + Parade Registration

If you would like to apply for the $200 Float Grant and register your float for the parade, complete the combined application and registration form below.

Applications open: Thursday, 8 October 2026
Applications close: Thursday, 12 November 2026


 

The Float Grant is up to $200 per successful applicant organisation. Grant funding must be used for the approved purpose and in accordance with Council's funding conditions.

 

 

The Burnie Christmas Parade brings our community together to celebrate, connect and showcase what makes Burnie special.
