Voting is compulsory
You can vote in person at a polling place on polling day.
If you are unable do this, you may be eligible to vote early. The following options are available:
- vote in person at a pre-poll centre,
- vote by phone (interstate and overseas electors only, early or on polling day), or
- apply to vote by post (complete and return an application form by 4pm on Friday 11 July 2025)

Tasmanian Parliament Overview
Legislative Council (Upper House)
- Role: Reviews legislation passed by the Lower House.
- Members: 15 members, each representing a single-member electorate.
- Elections: Staggered annually, with members serving 6-year terms.
House of Assembly (Lower House)
- Role: Forms government and passes legislation.
- Members: 35 members (7 from each of 5 electorates).
- Elections: Held every 4 years using the Hare-Clark proportional voting system.
- Premier: The leader of the party (or a coalition) that holds the majority becomes the Premier and forms government.
