Tips for Bins in Windy Weather
Windy weather can make waste collection challenging, but with a few simple steps we can reduce litter and keep streets tidy.
While we can’t control the weather, we can prepare for it. If strong winds are forecast, place bins out in the morning rather than the night before. Put heavier items at the bottom, avoid overfilling, and make sure lids are fully closed.
If a bin isn’t full, consider waiting until the next collection, or take waste to the Burnie Waste Management Centre, where up to 100 kg of general waste can be disposed of free of charge with photo ID.
Working with neighbours to put bins out and bring them in promptly also helps. Bring bins in as soon as possible after collection to prevent empty bins blowing over.
If bins are damaged or litter spreads after collection, report it via Snap Send Solve or contact Council. For windy-day collection timing, residents can call the collection hotline on (03) 6427 4646.
Small changes on windy days make a big difference in keeping Burnie clean and protected.
