Seaview Avenue, Burnie - Reinstatement Works

TasWater reinstated the pathway between Seaview Avenue and Amelia Street in November 2025, following a burst water main in April 2025 that caused flooding and property damage. Emergency repairs were carried out, and the pathway is now fully restored. The water main is scheduled for full replacement in the future to prevent further issues.

Wivenhoe Underpass Bass Highway

Transport Services Tasmania completed repairs and strengthening of the South Burnie–Wivenhoe eastbound rail underpass between Jul-Oct 2025. Works included higher bridge barriers to improve safety and durability. Single-lane traffic was used during construction, with temporary shoulder narrowing for cyclists. Options to restore the shoulder while retaining safety improvements are being explored

Tasrail Shiploader Project

Since opening in October 2024, the shiploader has loaded 320,000 tonnes across 33 vessels. The project employed ~140 people, with hoppers fabricated by The Engineering Company and delivery led by COVA Hayward. It includes the replacement of reclaim, wharf gallery and conveyor infrastructure, an upgraded HV electrical system, and installation of a new shiploader delivering double capacity 2200T/hr

Youth2Independence Y2I Youth Foyer

Stubbs Constructions has completed a $14.2 million, 25-bed facility in North-West Tasmania to provide supported accommodation, education, and employment opportunities for young people experiencing homelessness. Wurayni officially opened on 8 August 2025, the facility is located beside the Burnie TasTAFE campus and Hellyer College, and is operated by Youth, Family and Community Connections (YFCC).

Woolworths Upper Burnie Renovation

The $7.1 M renovation of Woolworths Upper Burnie was completed in June 2025, featuring a refreshed store layout, improved accessibility, energy-efficient upgrades, and enhanced fresh produce areas. New offerings include Direct-to-Boot pickup and hybrid checkouts, delivering a faster, more convenient shopping experience for the local community.

Tas Networks Community Battery Pilot

Tasmania’s first community battery was installed at Burnie Community House, Shorewell Park, completed in mid-2025. It stores excess solar energy and releases it during peak demand, supporting local energy needs and grid stability. Community sessions were held, with Council leasing the land in Nov 2024. A mural by Damian “Gadget” Rossiter celebrates native wildlife and community spirit.

Burnie Trunk Main Renewal - TasWater

TasWater replaced the 75-year-old water main from Mount Road, Burnie, to Three-Mile Line with a new 4 km DN 375/450 main. Pipes were joined via butt welding, mostly open trench through farmland and council land, with HDD under roads. New hydrants, valves, and connections were installed, and pavements reinstated. Completed mid‑2025, the upgrade improves water reliability for the growing community.

Homes Tasmania Modhomes

Six two-bedroom modular units, with an estimated cost of over $1 million, were completed in February 2025 by Podmatrix in Shorewell Park. The use of modular construction enabled faster project delivery, supporting the provision of quality housing and helping to get Tasmanians into homes sooner.

Burnie Ambulance Super Station

Completed in November 2024, the $12.4 million Burnie Ambulance Super Station on Brickport Road is now operational and serving the community. The modern facility provides expanded capacity for emergency vehicles, improved staff training areas and better support for local paramedics, strengthening emergency response and health services across the North West.

Dulverton Food and Organics (FOGO) Facility

The $32 million Dulverton Regional Organics Facility started operating in July 2024. Supporting FOGO services for Cradle Coast households and processing organic waste from aquaculture, dairy and brewing industries. The facility diverts around 7,500 tonnes of waste from landfill each year and produces compost for local nurseries and farms, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Cam River Bridge Replacement

Transport Tasmania has replaced the Cam River Bridge on the Bass Highway and installed new traffic signals at the Murchison Highway junction serving Camdale and Somerset. Delivered as part of the Bass Highway Action Plan, the project improves safety, traffic flow and reliability on this key freight and commuter corridor. Construction was completed in June 2024.

Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence

In September 2023, TasTAFE opened a $5 million Agricultural Training Centre of Excellence at Freer Farm, Burnie. 2024 upgrades include Stockyards, irrigation, precision agriculture, cropping tunnels, biosecurity, and training simulators. The modern facility provides industry-relevant skills and training through a farm-based learning centre, fostering collaboration with the sector.
