Recycle Rewards is Tassie’s new Container Refund Scheme - a key Tasmanian Government initiative that aims to reduce litter and increase recycling across our beautiful state.

Did you know … drink containers make up 45% of Tasmania’s litter by volume?!

As a statewide scheme, Recycle Rewards will aim to divert millions of drink containers to be recycled each year - instead of ending up in our parks, rivers and beaches.

In Burnie, you can find the Recycle Rewards Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) on the corner of Anglesea and Smith Street, Wivenhoe, opening from Thursday 1 May 2025.

There is also a Recycle Rewards Depot in Somerset, operated by City Mission North West, providing a fast, safe and friendly drive-thru service, with staff there to help you with your big (and small) loads.

 

It is not necessary to download the app, however the app gives you access to key features including:

Recycle Rewards is a Collaborative Partnership

TasRecycle - coordinator
Run the scheme behind the scenes — handling the money, spreading the word, and keeping everything on track.

TOMRA Cleanaway - statewide operator
Manage the refund points, pay out your 10 cents, transporting and make sure containers are properly recycled.

City Mission - local depot operator
In Somerset, City Mission North West runs a local depot where you can return containers, get cash back, or even donate your refund.

Tasmanian Government - regulator
They make sure the whole system runs smoothly and does what it’s meant to.
