The Burnie Foreshore redevelopment is progressing, with the Minister for Transport approving the removal of rail along North Terrace, and the contract for the works now awarded.
The removal of approximately 800 metres of rail is an important step in progressing the Foreshore redevelopment and implementing the vision for the area.
The Burnie Foreshore redevelopment forms part of the City Centre Urban Plan, supported by $17.3 million in funding received from the Tasmanian Government.
Site preparations to commence
Site preparations and works are expected to commence in the coming weeks, marking an important milestone in the delivery of the Burnie Foreshore redevelopment.
The rail removal is being carefully planned to minimise impacts on the local environment and penguin population. Penguin Ecologist Dr Perviz Marker is providing a Penguin Management Plan to guide the works.
Foreshore design nearing completion
The Foreshore design is in the final stages of completion and is expected to be available for the community to view in the coming weeks.
Council has also been engaging with Burnie Parkrun and Burnie Surf Life Saving Club as part of the project, recognising the importance of considering the needs of community groups and users of the foreshore area.
North Terrace traffic management
As part of survey works associated with the project, traffic management will be in place on North Terrace between Mallee Grill and the Basalt Columns car park on Friday 18 September.
Disruption is expected to be limited, with some narrowing of the road lane required while surveyors operate within the road reserve.
Motorists are asked to take care when travelling through the area and follow traffic management directions.
