Burnie and Tasmania’s North West Coast are set to welcome a major new motorsport event, with Targa Australia announcing the launch of Targa Florio from April 2027.

Following the successful return of Targa Tasmania in 2025, Targa Australia has secured a three-year agreement with Events Tasmania and Burnie City Council to stage the new event from 2027 to 2029. Based in Burnie, the three-day rally will debut from 16–18 April 2027.

Taking naming inspiration from the historic Sicilian race first held in 1906, the event will feature 16 competitive stages covering more than 220 kilometres of closed public roads across the North West Coast. A range of free community activities, including a Saturday night Targafest in Burnie’s city centre, will also form part of the program.

Burnie Mayor Teeny Brumby said the event would deliver significant economic and tourism benefits, while Targa CEO Mark Perry described the announcement as a milestone in securing the long-term future of Targa in Tasmania.
