The Burnie Arts Centre Redevelopment has received two major accolades at the 2026 Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence, recognising the scale of the project and the specialist craftsmanship that has helped transform the Centre into a vibrant community asset.
Vos Construction & Joinery was awarded the Renovation/Fit-Out over $10 Million Award, while Klek Roofing & Cladding was named Specialist Contractor of the Year – Commercial Award for its work on the redevelopment.
Recognising a complex transformation
The Renovation/Fit-Out over $10 Million Award recognises the scale, scope and complexity of the Burnie Arts Centre Redevelopment.
Vos Construction & Joinery successfully navigated the many challenges associated with delivering a major transformation while allowing the Centre’s full program of community events to continue throughout the works.
The project required an exceptional level of planning and management, with a strong focus on quality and the transformative nature of the works.
The completed redevelopment has now been returned to the community as a renewed and vibrant cultural asset.
Specialist craftsmanship recognised
The award for Klek Roofing & Cladding recognises the exceptional quality and scale of its specialist work on the project.
The team installed and hand-folded more than five kilometres of zinc sheet, working over a substrate that also required substantial correction and preparation.
The judges recognised the exemplary set-out and finish of the work, as well as the dedication of the Klek team to delivering the project to the highest possible standard while meeting the required budget and program.
The zinc work provides a striking example of the specialist skills and craftsmanship that sit behind the finished building.
A significant investment in Burnie's cultural future
The Burnie Arts Centre Redevelopment was made possible through an $18 million commitment from the Australian Government, supporting the delivery of this significant cultural infrastructure project.
Alongside this, the Tasmanian Government contributed $2 million towards the Civic Plaza redevelopment through the Burnie City Centre Urban Plan funding, helping bring this new cultural and civic space to life for our community.
The Burnie Cultural Precinct was also identified as the only Tasmanian regional cultural infrastructure project in the Australian Government’s five-year cultural policy, Revive.
Bringing the project to life
The Burnie Arts Centre Redevelopment is the result of the combined expertise, effort and commitment of many organisations and individuals.
Congratulations to Vos Construction & Joinery and Klek Roofing & Cladding on their well-deserved recognition at the 2026 Master Builders Tasmania Awards for Excellence, and to everyone involved in delivering this important project for Burnie.
