Tasmanian Planning Commission - Application for Planning Permit

Notice is given for the following application for a planning permit under section 57 of the Land Use Planning and Approvals Act 1993 (LUPA Act):
Tasmanian Networks Pty Ltd proposes use and development incorporating 366 new transmission towers, approximately 162km of new 220kV overhead transmission line within an easement varying in width between 50m to 120m; one new switching station; modifications to existing 110kV line and 22kV distribution lines; upgrades to the existing substations at Palmerston, Sheffield and Burnie; tracks to access towers from existing roadways; and temporary construction areas.
The proposal commences at Palmerston substation near the junction of Poatina Road and Saundridge Road and finishes at Hampshire Hills passing through Deloraine, Dunorlan, Sheffield, Barrington, Kindred, Abbotsham, Mount Montgomery, Blythe River, Heybridge, Burnie, East Cam and Highclere. The proposal crosses the Local Government areas of Northern Midlands, Meander Valley, Kentish, Central Coast and Burnie City.
Under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) the proposal was determined to be a controlled action. The relevant matters for assessment under the EPBC Act are listed threatened species and communities. The proposal is to be assessed as an accredited assessment under the Major Infrastructure Development Approvals Act 1999 and the LUPA Act as part of this application.

Any person may make a representation in relation to the application to the Tasmanian Planning Commission in writing, from 20 September 2025 until 18 October 2025, by email to tpc@planning.tas.gov.au, or by post to the Tasmanian Planning Commission, GPO Box 1691, Hobart Tas 7001.
All representations must be received no later than midnight on 18 October 2025. Late representations will not be accepted.
