Council are proud to share some exciting improvements to our CCTV network - delivering smarter technology, better coverage, and stronger community safety.

  • The entire system was replaced with modern, up-to-date technology
  • 83 older cameras upgraded to 63 brand-new high-resolution cameras
  • Giving 20% better coverage thanks to smarter positioning and clearer imaging across every level and in every stairwell.
  • Police have 24/7 access, helping operations run smoothly when incidents occur.

Community-Wide Improvements

Burnie City Council has been working with the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) on a collaborative project to support councils across Tasmania in upgrading and modernising their CCTV networks.

As part of this project, Council will be upgrading our infrastructure through the installation of new servers and network systems, along with upgraded and improved camera installations at:

  • Burnie Park
  • Alexander Street (near the Courthouse and Communion)
  • Burnie Yacht Club – upgraded for improved coverage

These upgrades are all about creating safer public spaces, improving visibility, and ensuring coordination is in place when needed.
