Compliance Officer

Burnie City Council is seeking a community-focused and proactive Compliance Officer to support the delivery of regulatory and compliance services across the municipality.

This is a varied and rewarding role suited to someone who enjoys working both in the field and administratively, balancing compliance responsibilities with positive community engagement and customer service.

As part of the Compliance Services team, you will contribute to maintaining safe, lawful and well-managed public spaces while supporting Council’s broader vision of delivering positive outcomes for the Burnie community.

About the Role

Reporting to the Executive Manager Compliance Services, the Compliance Officer will support Council’s regulatory and enforcement functions across a range of activities including:

  • Parking administration and enforcement
  • Fire abatement inspections and compliance
  • Investigating complaints and alleged breaches of local laws
  • Conducting patrols and inspections across the municipality
  • Maintaining accurate records and evidence
  • Supporting the Municipal Inspector during periods of leave and peak operational demand
  • Assisting with continuous improvement initiatives and service delivery enhancements

The role also involves engaging with members of the community to encourage education, cooperation and positive compliance outcomes wherever possible.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Experience in a compliance, regulatory, enforcement or customer service environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Sound organisational and administrative abilities
  • The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently
  • Strong problem-solving and investigation skills
  • A calm and professional approach when managing difficult situations
  • A commitment to safety, teamwork and continuous improvement

Experience within local government, parking enforcement or fire abatement will be highly regarded but is not essential.
