Cutting with Courage

Every year, Australian’s buy more clothing than any other country in the world. On average purchasing 56 new garments per person each year. In this free workshop (registrations are required via link) delivered by talented textile artist Aukje Boonstra you can learn how to transform a piece of clothing from your wardrobe into a new favourite, using various techniques.

Requirements for Cutting with Courage: you will need a basic knowledge in hand sewing, and:

1) At least one piece of clothing you want to transform. 

2) Other fabric remnants or clothing you can cut up.

3) Matching and/or contrasting sewing threads.

4) Some fancy knitting yarns, embroidery yarns, whatever you have.

5) Sewing kit, including needles, pins, fabric and embroidery scissors 

6) Sewing machine, including sewing yarns, various sewing machine needles

If you choose to work with your sewing machine, it must be in good working order and you must be able to operate it. If you need to borrow a sewing machine, please familiarise yourself with it prior to the workshop. 

Samples of Aukje's work will be on display during this workshop to inspire you.

This workshop is designed for participants aged 14 years and over (minors must be accompanied by an adult).
