Beach Wise - Free Water Safety Sessions
Fun, confidence-building beach activities for kids, teens and adults
Beach Wise is Surf Life Saving Tasmania’s free, hands-on beach safety program running twice daily during the summer holidays. Led by qualified SLST lifesaving staff, each session blends fun activities with essential, water safety skills—helping participants build confidence in the water while learning how to stay safe at the beach.
We provide a supportive and encouraging environment to learn about water safety.
- Water Safety Awareness: Understand the meaning of flags, signs, sun safety, how to signal for help.
- Rips and Rescues: How to identify rips, avoid danger, learn ways to self-rescue and assist others
- Water Skills: build confidence in the water with wading and floating techniques suited to the beach.
- Beach Activities: Traditional beach games and activities, modified versions to suit all ages
Important Notes:
- Please bring bathers, wetsuit (optional), towel, drinking water, sunhat, sunscreen, rashshirt if available
- Parents/carers of participants <18yrs must remain onsite for the whole duration as responsible guardians.
- Please note, the minimum entry requirement for the first session is 5 years of age, and for the second session is 10 years.
- All abilities are welcome. Adaptive options can be arranged—contact us to discuss specific needs.
