Thank you to our community for taking the time to fill in the survey. Your feedback is incredibly valuable to us and will help us strive towards Making a Better Burnie.

This Draft Masterplan aims to enhance the usability and amenities of the West Park Precinct, making it a more inclusive space for the community.

The plan has been developed using insights and suggestions collected from consultation meetings with stakeholders of the West Park Precinct User Group.

Burnie City Council Mayor Teeny Brumby said,

"I’m pleased to see the Draft West Park Precinct Masterplan now open for public consultation. We know there are differing views among both councillors and the west park user group, which is why it’s so important that the broader community has the opportunity to share their thoughts. This is a valuable chance for our community to shape what this precinct should look like for Burnie’s future."

There are a number of elements within the draft plan that Council and the User Group require further feedback to make a final decision. These areas include:

Traffic and Access - Need safer, more functional access for westbound vehicles. Should a new internal one way link road connecting the UTAS carpark to the proposed sealed carpark be considered?

Skate Park – Should the skate park be considered in this area or elsewhere? Council’s current Playground Strategy suggests the skate park should be located in the View Road Reserve.

Half Court Basketball – Is the proposed location suitable or is there potential to relocate this to a more sheltered location and integrate with the skate park?

Outdoor performance space - Is this concept support with inclusions of necessary hardstand, power, shelter options.

Sports and Oval Use - Recommendation to replace sight screens with portable versions, cycle track needs UCI-compliant fence and permanent relocation interchange boxes to allow for year round track use

Facilities and Amenities - Permanent security lighting and new LED arena lighting suggested. Scoreboard replacement proposed

Utilities and Infrastructure - Electrical upgrades are required, fire detection system upgrade flagged

Landscape and Environment - Coastal planting suggested for erosion control, extension of penguin fence proposed. Is permeable fencing which would boost aesthetics of oval a good idea?

The public consultation is now closed.

Council will now consolidate all feedback received, request consultants make any required adjustments to the plan and present the final draft to Councillors at a future Council meeting.

Your feedback is incredibly important to us and will help us towards making a better Burnie.
