About the Role

In this outdoor, practical role, you will help maintain and improve Burnie’s parks, reserves, verges, open spaces and sporting grounds. You will operate a range of small plant and equipment, carry out general horticulture and maintenance tasks, and contribute to keeping our public spaces safe, clean and welcoming.

Day-to-day work includes mowing, trimming, weeding, vegetation control and general gardening, as well as supporting construction and maintenance activities across the municipality.

What You Will Do

  • Maintain and enhance parks, reserves and open spaces to agreed service levels
  • Operate and maintain small plant and equipment (mowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, etc.)
  • Carry out weed, vegetation and foliage control
  • Apply agricultural chemicals safely as directed
  • Solve on-the-job problems and support your team through practical advice
  • Contribute to a positive, safe and customer-focused workplace

What You Will Bring

  • Certificate III in Horticulture (or equivalent experience)
  • Experience in parks, gardens, grounds or horticulture work
  • Ability to perform regular manual outdoor labour
  • Skills in operating and maintaining small machinery and tools
  • Understanding of WHS requirements
  • Current driver licence, Medium Rigid licence, and relevant plant licences (chainsaw, tractor, White Card)
