Day 1 – Burnie
Explore Burnie’s Art Deco and Federation architecture, visit the Federation Street Museum and Burnie Regional Art Gallery, and enjoy a coastal walk along the foreshore. See the Giant Freshwater Crayfish Sculpture, stroll Burnie Park and Oldaker Falls, and visit Hellyer Road Distillery for a Whisky Walk Tour. End the day watching the Burnie Little Penguins return at dusk.
Day 2 – Burnie → Stanley
Drive north to Stanley, stopping at scenic lookouts along the way. Climb or take the chairlift up The Nut for panoramic views, explore Highfield House, and the giant photo frame. Stroll through the historic streets, browse local shops, and enjoy a fresh crayfish at Hursey’s.
Day 3 – Stanley → Arthur River
Travel west toward Arthur River along the rugged northwest coast. Stop at coastal lookouts, beaches, and small fishing villages along the way. Arthur River, known as the “Edge of the World,” offers wild coastline, remote wilderness, and a quiet spot to explore the river estuary and surrounding forest.
Day 4 – Arthur River → Cradle Mountain
Drive southeast toward Cradle Mountain, stopping at Waratah to see the historic hydro-powered street lighting and waterfall. Arrive at Cradle Mountain, explore short lodge trails, and walk the Dove Lake Circuit to enjoy alpine views. Visit the Tasmanian Devil Sanctuary and consider an after-dark feeding tour.
Day 5 – Cradle Mountain → Strahan
Spend the morning walking Dove Lake, or take the side track to Marion’s Lookout for panoramic views. Drive west to Strahan along scenic rainforest routes. Choose a classic west coast experience: a Gordon River Cruise through World Heritage wilderness, a ride on the Wild Coast Wilderness Railway, or a short rainforest walk to Hogarth Falls. Unwind by the Strahan waterfront in the evening.
Day 6 – Strahan → Hobart
Drive southeast through Queenstown, The Wall in the Wilderness at Derwent Bridge, Tarraleah, and the hydro-electric stations at Tarraleah and Tungatinah. Stop at Mt Field National Park for a walk to Russell Falls, pass historic Bushy Park oast houses and the Salmon Ponds, and arrive in Hobart. Explore Salamanca Place and the waterfront in the evening.
Day 7 – Hobart → Cockle Creek
Relax at a café in Battery Point, explore Salamanca Place galleries, then drive south to Cockle Creek, the southernmost point accessible by road. Take walks along the beaches, spot native wildlife, and enjoy the remote wilderness of the Southern Wilderness.
Day 8 – Cockle Creek → Port Arthur
Drive north along the Tasman Peninsula to Port Arthur. Explore the historic site and learn about Tasmania’s convict history. Optional experiences include the Tasman Peninsula Wilderness Cruise, Isle of the Dead Cemetery Tour, or a ghost tour after dark.
Day 9 – Port Arthur → Bicheno
Travel north along the scenic East Coast to Bicheno, stopping at beaches and lookouts. Spend the afternoon in Freycinet National Park with short or long hikes, coastal viewpoints, and wildlife spotting.
Day 10 – Bicheno → Derby / Barnbougle / Bridport
Drive northeast along the coast. Adventure seekers can explore mountain biking trails in Derby, golf enthusiasts can enjoy world-class coastal golf at Barnbougle (book tee times early), while others may relax at Bridport, enjoy beaches, or sample local food.
Day 11 – Bridport → Launceston
Drive southwest toward Launceston, stopping at small towns along the way. Explore Launceston shops, City Park, or enjoy a riverside stroll sample Tasmanian produce and wines at local restaurants.
Day 12 – Launceston → Devonport
Spend the day exploring Launceston in detail: stroll the boutiques, visit Cataract Gorge Reserve, ride the chairlift, cross the suspension bridge, and relax at the café. Drive west to Devonport, stopping at the Cradle Coast Tasting Trail points along the way.
Day 13 – Devonport
Explore the waterfront, enjoy a meal by the water, or catch a ferry if departing Tasmania by sea, completing the full lap of the island.
