Our teams alongside local contractors Civilscape have commenced upgrading the second section of West Mooreville Road.
We are upgrading the pavement at the north site of West Mooreville Road where the road has been heaving/shifting into the centreline of the road. Investigations found that there was not enough pavement under the road for the amount of traffic traveling on the road.
The pavement upgrade involves milling/excavating 200mm of road pavement, placing geogrid, and then placing 300mm of road pavement back. This will result in the road being 100mm higher than the original road height. We are also installing a subsoil drain along the western side of this section of road to pick up any moisture under the road.
The geogrid is a type of mesh that you lay in the road pavement during construction which adds strength to road. This strengthening results in the pavement under the road seal moving/deflecting less when heavy vehicles travel over the road. This prolongs the life of the road seal, which in turn prolongs the life of the road.

Works are nearing completion at the repair of West Mooreville Rd in Ridgley.
Our sub-contractors, Civilscape, unearthed several areas where water was getting under the road which eventually led to the degradation of the road-base and failure of the asphalt surface.
This water has now been intersected with drainage blankets and pipes that are directing the water flow down to the culvert at the bottom of the valley.
Civilscape anticipate both lanes will be fully open this weekend. The road surface will be left unsealed for a few weeks to let the base cure and be compacted by through traffic before they go back in and lay new asphalt.
Speed restrictions will remain in place until the road is sealed & all road users are reminded to drive safely through the area.
The crew are now moving further along West Mooreville Rd to commence repairs to the section adjacent to number 574.
We thank the public for their patience during these important works.

Council are currently up near Ridgley Hwy for Stage 1 of our repair works. We’re working with Civilscape Contracting to dig new drains either side of the road. This will stop significant amounts of groundwater getting in under the base and disrupting the road surface and allow us to build a solid, stable, reliable and most of all safe road for our local motorists. Once the new drainage is in place, the damaged sections of asphalt in this stretch will be dug out and resealed. Then we’ll move to Stage 2 adjacent to number 574, where we will be milling-out and resealing a section of the sweeping curve that has a substantially degraded surface.
Outside of these two major sections, other areas of smaller damage will be progressively repaired as part of our wider annual resealing program.
We are doing our best to keep both lanes open as much as possible through the works but extended single lane closures are unavoidable. Our teams are onsite monitoring and maintaining all traffic management. Please obey all speed and advisory signs and directions from workers. This will keep you and everyone onsite safe. We thank you for your patience while we deliver these crucial repairs over the next 6-8 weeks.
Thank you to our community for your understanding as we work hard for you to upgrade West Mooreville Road.

Final designs have been completed and approved. Major works will commence on Monday 25th September.
The work duration will take approximately 8 – 9 weeks, weather dependant.
We kindly ask the community to please take care and obey speed limits - day and night - for our workers safety and yours.
Expect delays of up to 15 minutes during the period of the works.

Whilst waiting for final engineering designs, the Burnie City Council Works team have noticed the road had deteriorated significantly the last couple weeks. The team have removed to top layer of asphalt and covered with gravel. Removing pot holes.
Water is coming up through a natural spring and final design that includes detailed drainage will divert this.
These works are a temporary fix until final designs are approved. Due to these works, the speed limit has been lowered for the safety of all road users.
Please adhere to the temporary speed limits. This will avoid spraying rocks, losing control and or damaging vehicles.
We will be commencing this work in the coming weeks for a quick remediation turn around
