Annual Plan and Budget Estimates 2024 -2025 Community Feedback

The Burnie City Council is inviting feedback from the Burnie community on its draft 2024-25 Annual Plan and Budget Estimates as part of a 4-week public exhibition process.

In order to ensure our community can be informed about what the Council plans to do in the upcoming financial year, there will be three (3) pop up information sessions for you to come along to hear about the Annual Plan and Budget Estimates from the Director Corporate and Commercial Services, Bel Lynch.  There will be an opportunity to ask questions to help inform your understanding of what is proposed, so that you can then undertake the survey to provide your feedback.  The sessions will be held as follows:

Burnie Community House, Shorewell Park – Thursday 16 May 2024

Commencing 11:30am until 1pm.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Burnie Beach Hotel – Tuesday 14 May 2024

Commencing 12pm until 1.30pm.  Light refreshments will be provided.

Upper Burnie Memorial Hall - Thursday 16 May 2024

Commencing 5:30pm until 7pm.  Light refreshments will be provided.

In addition, there are other ways to ask your questions and get the information you need to inform your opinions on our proposal:

  • An online webinar meeting is available to join on Tuesday 21 May 2024 commencing at 5:30pm until 7pm.  Further details will be provided closer to this event.

  • Ask your questions on our Facebook page and then each week, watch the Q&A session where your questions will be asked and responded to.

Mayor Brumby said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for Council to hear your thoughts on what we have proposed for 2024-25.  We value everyone’s input and know that diversity of opinion achieves the best outcomes for all.

“While it is simply not possible to cater for every suggestion made - we will ensure that every suggestion submitted through the community feedback process is considered before determining the final budget which we expect to be tabled to the Council meeting on 25 June 2024.  At that time we will report back to the community on the feedback received and our associated response.”

Your feedback can be provided through the online survey where you can comment on matters such as:

  • The direction the Council is taking in its Council Plan 2022-25
  • The range of services the Council provides (are there additional services or activities you feel the Council should be delivering?)
  • Ways you think the proposed budget could be improved to better service the lifestyles and aspirations of our Burnie City residents and ratepayers
  • The balance between the provision of Council’s core services and the needs of the community
  • The proposed rate increase. Do you consider it affordable for the majority of the community?  Perhaps you feel there are other options?
  • The level of investment the Council is making into its existing assets
  • The capital works program proposed including our new strategic projects
  • Asset improvement projects that you feel should be included in the capital works program? (have we missed anything?)
  • The Community Grant applications the Council is inclined to support
  • The Council’s core financial statements

To obtain a copy of the Draft Annual Plan and Budget Estimates document - and get access to the online survey - click here or head to Burnie City Council's website – burnie.tas.gov.au and click the ‘Have Your Say’ tab on our home page.

A hard copy of the survey is also available from the Council’s City Offices on Wilson Street.

The consultation period opens Wednesday 8 May 2024, and will close at midnight on Wednesday 5 June 2024.
