The Electric Highways Tasmania fast car charger was turned on and is now available for use.
Located in North Terrace, the 50kw electric car charger will charge between 10% and 80% in an hour.
Electric cars can be charged at home using standard 240v power outlets but it takes much longer.
The new Burnie charger, facilitated by Burnie City Council, is part of a network of fast chargers being developed throughout Tasmania to allow for travel throughout the state.
As electric powered cars are developed to provide longer range and become more popular, Council looks forward to the charger contributing to its energy savings and carbon reduction initiatives for the community.
