Congratulations to Councillor Alvwyn Boyd

Congratulations to Councillor Alvwyn Boyd who recently received an award for Outstanding Commitment and Service to Local Government.
Councillor Boyd was honoured with this award at the recent Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) General Meeting in Devonport.
Councillor Boyd was first elected to Burnie City Council in 1999.
He was subsequently elected as Mayor, Burnie City Council in 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2009 and then again in 2017 until the end of 2018.
He was also elected as Councillor in 2011 and 2018 and elected Deputy Mayor in 2014 and served in this capacity until 2017, when elected Mayor to fill a casual vacancy.
Councillor Boyd has served an unbroken period of nearly 23 years on Burnie City Council. He has been a very active councillor, Mayor and Deputy Mayor over this entire period of time, being well known and highly regarded across the Burnie community and has been a passionate supporter and advocate for Burnie's status as the north-west hub for trade, business and employment, transport, culture and leisure activities, health and education services. Burnie City Council has undertaken a number of important developments while under his leadership as Mayor.
Councillor Boyd is contesting the next local government election and so may well extend his period of service to the Burnie community.
Councillor Boyd’s long and diligent service to the Burnie City Council is worthy of formal recognition with the awarding of this Certificate.
