The Burnie Athletic Club boasts a long and proud history spanning over 123 years of continuous entertainment. The traditional Burnie New Years Day Sports have always been one of Burnies major events, and continues to attract world-class athletes, cyclists and wood choppers.
All three disciplines have a full program of events culminating in the final of the Mens and Womens 120m Gift (athletics), and the Mens and Ladies Wheel races. The main event on the wood chopping program is the 300mm Standing Chop.

Rally Tasmania 30th Anniversary

The 2010 Rally Tasmania Classic Rally is based in Burnie on February 26-28, 2010.
The competition covers spectacular mountain and valley areas within a 100km radius of the City,
and returns to Burnie at the end of each day.
