What Rostrum Tasmania presents the State Finals of the Annual Speaking Competition (The Sir John Morris Memorial Competition)

This prestigious competition, held annually since 1963, is named in honour of Sir John Morris, the first Patron of Rostrum Tasmania, and a former Chief Justice of Tasmania.

The competition consists of two speeches by each contestant; a 10 minute prepared speech to this year's theme 'Leaving only footprints' and a short notice speech of 4 minutes. Adjudicated by a panel of accredited critics of Rostrum, equal marks are allotted for the impact of the speeches on the intellect and on the emotions.

The public are invited to come and enjoy an afternoon of entertainment stimulation, and instruction, as they listen to some of the best speakers from the Rostrum Clubs of Tasmania.

The aim of this workshop is to impart a full understanding of all aspects of colour mixing, the basics of colour harmony and contrasts will also be covered as will suitable materials and their use

This will be the only performance by the Cradle Coast Orchestra in Burnie in 2009. In this concert they are joined by young musicians from Launceston's Youth & Community Orchestra. Conductors are Andy Farrell and Margaret Hoban. A highlight of the concert will be Hayden's famous Trumpet Concerto, with Curtis Wilcox from Burnie as soloist.
