WATER SUPPLY
Council maintains its own bulk water supply and water reticulation systems. The supply is provided in accordance with the Australian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.
This water supply is provided to the urban areas of Burnie and Ridgley.
Most properties are fitted with water meters at the stop tap, which is usually near the front boundary. Residents should ensure that the area around the meter is kept clear to allow access for the meter reader. Residents are responsible for ensuring that the meter and its cover are not damaged by activities such as lawn mowing or vehicular traffic on their property.
A property's annual allowance for water is based on the water rate paid for that property. Excess charges apply for amounts in excess of this. Council maintains the water system as far as the water meter. The minimum water allowance for the year is 400kl.
SEWERAGE TREATMENT
Sewerage reticulation systems extend throughout the urban areas of Burnie and Ridgley and the sewerage is treated at one of three (3) treatment plants. The systems provide for domestic sewerage and certain licensed trade waste. Trade waste may only be discharged with the written agreement of Council.
Residents must not introduce petrol, oil, paints, solvents or other industrial wastes into the sewerage system.
Please report leaks or maintenance problems to Council's Customer Services Team on 6430 5700.
